For those of you hitting up the Chicago area for salmon fishing the fishing has been pretty good. A few bad trips but for the most part we are getting 10 to 20 fish on a 6hr trip.

Fish have been in 90 to 140fow and varies by day. Lots of bait from 55fow on out to 120. We have been getting Coho, Steelhead, Lake Trout and a few kings.

Coho can be had still on the standard 00 orange dodgers and peanut flys. the 2″ flys are starting to do well and likely will be moving to that in next week or so. Surface 00 dodgers with 5/8oz weight still producing as well as off high dipseys out 40 to 60. Probably even shallower but I like to keep them out further to avoid tangles with the deeper dipseys. Speeds have been about 2.5mph. Standard spoons and flasher flys have been working as well off just about everthing from 2 color lead to riggers down 80. Coho have been around 4-5lbs. Spoon coloers greens, blues, with chrome. Also orange doing well.

Steelhead have been biting all the same stuff as the coho salmon which is nice. Most steelies have been around 6lbs but gotten quite of few 10lbers.

Lakers we haven’t targeted in weeks but probably typical low and slow. Some other boats are targeting them and doing very well. I think they are in the 100 plus fow range.

The bite has been pretty consistent even with all the weather.

I guessing this pattern will continue for a few weeks which is typical for this time of year. All the fish are filled with alewives so plenty of food to keep them busy and close to home.
