Spring and summer Chicago offshore fishing charters are some of my most memorial trips of the year. Offshore fishing on Lake Michigan out of Chicago starts as soon as lake April all the way through sometime in August. Catches this time of year can be amazing. Our spring fishing charters start with big numbers of coho salmon near shore and also flurries of large lake trout. As we move into June Tons of Steelhead, Coho Salmon, Lake trout most the summer and as August comes around the King Salmon show up as well. Fishing far offshore in the deep blue waters of Lake Michigan is a newer type of fishing to many. To run a fishing charter out there we put a lot of effort into finding a charter boat with not only lots of deck room but also speed to get to the fishing grounds to maximize your time with lines in the water. Also our charter boats have all the bells and whistles as far as electronics and safety equipment goes. Storm Warning was fitted with all Raymarine equipment 3 displays, and one of the best radars on the market. We have a Fish Hawk temp probe to give us a idea of what’s going on below the surface and some of the fastest down riggers on the market so we can target fish down deep. We have one of the best Autopilots on the market for precision navigation. And some other toys that are more for fun then fishing such as a Bluetooth stereo.
Now what the fishing like. Chicago is a unique port to fish out of because we have such a consistent amount of fish threw out the year. In the early spring we start nearshore fishing for coho salmon. This can often times be crazy fast fishing. Moving offshore there is really no bottom structure. This means it takes hunting and using all the tools from our years of experience to the latest electronics to consistently get on the fish. Coho slamming the lures trying to rip the rod out of your hands, Steelhead with massive runs and constant leaping from the water, Kings screaming drag, and lake trout trying the pull the rod strait to the bottom. And to be honest we get a bunch of mixed in smaller fish so its not all rip your arm off fun. 3 fish on at a time is not uncommon. We also lose more fish this time of year then any other. Steelhead with their high flying jumps take some luck to get in the boat. Coho are bigger this time of year and their head trashing breaks off lures and sometimes even rips the hooks right out of their mouths.
Now is every day this way. NOPE. It is after all fishing not catching but we do everything we can for you to have a Epic fishing trip.
Our Lake Michigan fishing charters are about much more then catching fish. We believe it’s about the entire experience. Storm Warning’s Captains and Crew are chosen not only for their skill but for their love of fishing. Our Love of fishing is contagious. Read our customer reviews and it will give you a picture of what its like on our salmon fishing charters. The Captains and crew work hard to put fish on the deck not just for our clients but for us. We love to see a cooler full of fish because that’s what we enjoy.
