.SYNOPSIS…
Northeasterly winds will continue to taper off into tonight as 30.5 inch high pressure drifts south along the Ontario-Quebec border, shifting to southwesterly across the northern half of the lake Sunday afternoon as the high exits eastward. Light and variable winds are then expected Sunday night into Monday before southeasterly winds return Monday night into Tuesday morning. Brief periods of east-northeast winds are forecast during the afternoon hours on Tuesday and Wednesday as an area of 29.8 inch low pressure approaches southern Lake Michigan from the Ohio Valley. Isolated thunderstorms are also possible during these time frames. A larger area of 29.4 inch low pressure will form in the northern Great Plains Wednesday night, crossing northern Lake Michigan Thursday night, leading to increasing southeast winds across the open waters through Thursday afternoon. Gales are not expected at this time, though trends will be monitored in the coming forecasts. More widespread thunderstorm potential will accompany the passing low, with the best chances Thursday evening and night.
